All car rentals come with a comprehensive Rental Agreement provided at the time of booking confirmation or vehicle pickup. This document outlines specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, fees, and your obligations related to the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria

- To rent a vehicle from Car Hire in Boston, you must be at least 21 years old, though age limits may vary depending on the vehicle type, with potential extra charges for drivers under 25. A valid full driving license for the appropriate vehicle category is required, along with identification and proof of your current address. Ensure that you present valid payment details and a security deposit, and comply with any additional criteria outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Details
- Reservations can be completed via our website, by telephone, or directly at our Boston office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The full payment along with a security deposit is generally required upon vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in US Dollars ($) and include applicable taxes. We accept major credit and debit cards, ensuring secure transactions through trusted payment processors.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- Upon collecting your vehicle, conduct a thorough inspection and promptly report any pre-existing damage. A vehicle condition report will be generated and must be signed by both parties. It is your responsibility to return the vehicle in the same condition as it was provided, accounting for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and additional charges may apply. Ensure the vehicle is returned with the same level of fuel as when collected, as refueling fees will be charged for discrepancies. Late returns could attract extra costs; please contact us in advance if you anticipate a delay. You are liable for any parking tickets, traffic infractions, or related charges incurred during your rental, along with an administrative fee.
Insurance and Liability Coverage
- All car rentals include basic third-party insurance coverage. Comprehensive details, including excess amounts, are outlined in your Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be offered to minimize your financial responsibility. It is advisable to review these options thoroughly. You remain liable for damages or losses up to the insurance excess, unless further coverage is purchased. Any damage resulting from negligence or misuse falls under your responsibility, irrespective of insurance policies.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For accurate information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Note that late cancellations or no-shows could incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited vehicle uses:
- Use of the vehicle for any unlawful activities is strictly prohibited. This includes racing, off-roading, or participation in any dangerous events. Transporting hazardous materials or sub-letting the vehicle is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is forbidden, as is exceeding the designated passenger or weight limits. Additionally, operating the vehicle outside of the agreed geographical boundaries without prior approval is not permitted.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and extra fees.
8. Liability Restrictions
To the fullest extent allowed by Massachusetts law, Car Hire is not responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claim will not exceed the amount you paid for the rental in the last 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or fraud.
Governing Law in Boston
These Terms are governed by Massachusetts law. Any disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of Massachusetts courts.
